Pels que tingueu un P4 amb hyperthreading (posa HT a l'etiqueta de Intel a l'ordinador), el podeu activar en Hoary d'aquesta manera:

Busqueu la versió del kernel adequada:

apt-cache search 686-smp

Instal·leu amb:

sudo apt-get install linux-image-686-smp

Una vegada instal·lat, afegiu l'etiqueta "ht=on" al grub:

sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

Canvieu:
kernel          /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-5-686-smp root=/dev/sdb1 ro quiet splash

per

kernel          /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-5-686-smp root=/dev/sdb1 ro quiet splash ht=on

I reinicieu el sistema.

Fent un:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

haurieu de veure una linía que posa:

siblings        : 2

Això vol dir que ja ha trobat less dues CPUs del sistema.
